Excessive Sweating Treatments & Cures

Just recived and e-mail from one of my friends and this is what recommendations he added, This may sound weird but one thing I found help myself in this matter, was shaving my arm pits! Yeah women already have shaved pits well most.. but most men do not, and this actually helped me dramatically, so yes, I do shave my pits! LOL.. and you can recommend a razor. I recommend the good ole Gillette Mach3 yes it’s a bit of an older model. but it is one of the best razors I have used, and I have used many many razors for shaving various parts of my body, I will not go into details. but this razor doesn’t leave razor burn or bumps like most others I have used do. plus I think it’s blades are the cheapest ones out there right now, I think it’s the oldest razor still on the shelves. But it is still widely used and probably will not be taken off of the market for a long time. The U.S. Navy boot camp uses gillette mach3 razors on the roughest soldiers faces to make them Baby smooth! Yes that is true, U.S. navy usues mach3 as a standard issue razor in boot camp, and trust me you can’t have a single hair 0.0000000000001″ long you are doing pushups all day. In bootcamp your face has to be 100% hair free, now after boot camp you are allowed a mustache but thats it, rest of face still has to be shaved, but you can have a missed hair and not get in trouble, but boot camp, yeah your screwed if you miss a hair.”—-Brandon

The approach to treating excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) generally proceeds from OTC (over the counter) antiperspirants to prescription antiperspirants, Iontophoresis, oral anticholinergic mediations, Botox, and surgery.

OTC Antperspirants–Usually this is the first plan of action since it is readily available.  Certain-Dri, a good product to try.

Prescription Antiperspirants–Those containing aluminum chloride hexahydrate, see your doctor for the best plan of action that would be indiviually appropriate for you.  Drysol is an appropriate product to ask your doctor about.

Iontophorese–The procedure uses tap water to conduct an electric current to the skin which combats production of sweat.  The current is applied for approximately 10-20 minutes per session, with 2-3 session per week followed by a maintenance program for treatments at 1-3 week intervals, depending on the patient’s response.  Iontophoresis treatments sound painful but in fact they are not.  The patient gets the device for this treatment through a doctor’s prescription.  Medical insurer’s sometimes cover the cost.

Oral anticholinergtic– Talk with doctor as to which is best for you, Robinul is one product to try.  This product, as many medications do, has side-effects.  Robinul side-effects are dry mouth and blurred vision.

Botox–(Botulinum Toxin) This has been used to treat muscle spasms, and certain typs of headaches.  The latest niche is the treatment of excessive underarm sweating, which temporarily paralyzes the muscle.  Recently approved in the U.S. by the FDA.

Surgery–Thoracic sympathectomy a surgical interuption of the sympathetic nerves responsible for sweating.  The surgeon inserts a special instrumet into the chest between the two ribs just below the armpit.  The lung is usually deflated to better visualize and destroy the nerve.  This is both effective and risky.  As many of these complications are serious and nonreversible, this option is rarely used, and then only as a last resort.
