I was sitting in my allergist office one day after receiving my allergy shots and waiting my 20 minutes to see if I would have a reaction to the shots, when I picked up a magazine and started browzing through it with no intention to really read an article. There was an article that caught my eye about allergies and foods that could possibly trigger sneezes. So I jotted down a few notes of interests.
If ragweed pollen makes your eyes water and sneeze you should also avoid foods such as bananas, cantaloupes, honeydews, watermelons, cucumbers, zucchini, chamomile tea, and sunflower seeds.
If birch pollen makes your eyes water and sneeze you should avoid foods such as apples, apricots, cherries, kiwis nectarines, peaches, pears, plums, tomatoes, celery, green peppers, parsnips, peas, potatoes, anise, caraway, cumin, dill, fennel, parsley, almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, sunflower seeds, and walnuts.
If grass pollen makes your eyes water and sneeze, you should avoid kiwis, melon, oranges, tomatoes, and celery.
The article also stated substances in select foods that are chemically similar to airborne allergen trigger itchiness, tingling and swelling of the tongue, mouth, and throat. Cooking reduces the reaction–enough for some sufferers to be able to tolerate–but the sure protection to to avoid the items altogether.
